Farne Islands
Off the coast of Bamburgh, a seabird sanctuary holding approx. 55,000 pairs of breeding birds of 21 species, with puffins, eider ducks and four species of tern, also a large colony of grey seals. St Cuthbert died on Inner Farne in 687 and the chapel built in his memory can be visited. Boat trips are available from Seahouses Harbour (nb. £3.00 admission charge per island). George Stephenson's Birthplace
A small stone cottage c.1760, the inventor George Stephenson was born here in 1781, only one room open to the public (and it’s not the toilet !). Admission charge 80p.
